Trent Kososki, a former managing director at Stonepeak, has launched a utility-scale battery energy storage platform with an initial focus on Texas and California. 

The new company, GoodPeak, has 100 MW of advanced ERCOT development projects across 10 so-called “Texas Tens” projects of 10 MW each; and an overall development pipeline of 1 GW in Texas and California. 

The company is focused on developing, owning and operating battery storage assets with attractive locations and advantaged economics, PeakLoad has learned.   

GoodPeak’s leadership team comprises Kososki, ceo, who prior to Stonepeak was a partner at Energy Capital Partners; Hayden Stanley, coo, founder of EPC company Trilogy Power U.S.; and John Marciano, board chairman, and former co-head of Allen & Overy’s global energy practice. 

The company’s backers include executives, family offices, and advisors in the power and renewables industry.

“We have secured a portfolio of highly attractive locations, building upon several years of development activities – we plan to quickly build out a portfolio of energy storage assets to firm up renewables and add resiliency to the Texas power grid. As someone that froze through Winter Storm Uri with my family and sweated through many summers, I can attest to the need!” 

Marciano stated, “We are in the early innings of a major build-out of energy storage across the country – storage is the key enabler of decarbonization of the power industry, providing much-needed resilience and reliability.”
